Sustainability
Sustainability has been a buzz word in the fashion world for years. However at Polly Singer, we have been embracing sustainable fashion since our humble beginnings in 1993.
The 4 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Retrim
- We reduce waste by producing small collections, using vintage items when possible. Polly makes many of her flowers. Items are reused frequently. Nothing is thrown out. Hats and fascinators that do not sell are repurposed.
- Polly has been recycling for ages, both in her business and in personal life. In fact, one of Polly’s fascinator that made from scraps was featured on a magazine cover!
- Hat retrimming is a service that Polly offers to clients who have purchased one of her hats. As trim is sewn on by hand, each hat can be refurbished with different trims (feathers and flowers). The client gets a new look without having to purchase a new hat.

Polly is the owner of a heritage farm that has been in her family for over 200 years (since 1790). Sustainable farming practices are used. In addition, Polly plans to plant new trees annually to help reforest the land.

At both Polly’s home and office, the following practices are followed:
- Butterfly gardens are planted to encourage pollinators.
- Pesticides are not used.
- Solar lighting is used for all outdoor lighting.
- Lights are not used at times when dark skies are encouraged to help the firefly population.
