I have always loved fashion, however, I am not always fashionable. And by being a college student with a very limited inflow of money, being fashionable is not always easy, sometimes it’s downright unnerving. I started out my college career wanting to design fashion. While my career path has changed, I am still wholeheartedly inspired and in love with fashion. But coincidentally, shopping is one of my least favorite things to do.
I often see in magazines, television shows and walking around Lexington so many fabulous things. Clothes, shoes, hats, jackets, purses and jewelery, you name it. There are so many great looks and fashions being created everyday. But how can we keep up with them all, let alone afford them all? Especially we who have little time and less money. It seems like an impossible feat that mocks us every time we cross the paths of another great new ensemble. So how is it possible to be fabulously and affordably fashionable?
While I am still figuring out my own style, I am also still figuring out how to afford my own style. It may never even really be possible and of course it’s not so important to even spend much time thinking on, but I think there are a few main pointers to follow to make it easier.
- If you don’t have much to spend make sure you have the basics first; black heels, a great pair of jeans, a jacket that isn’t too heavy and can go with everything and a crisp white button up shirt. These four items can be mixed and matched so many different ways with different accessories and clothes, that it will seem like you have a complete wardrobe for any occasion.
- Accessorize! A boring outfit that you have worn time and time again can be reborn. Get some great new jewelery, hat or scarf (vintage never seems to go out of style and is always unique) and give that outfit a new look on life.
- Be confident. Confidence will be the greatest accessory you have. If you carry your yourself like you know you have never looked better, you’ll feel that way and people will see you that way.
