To dress up an outfit for the evening, try wearing a mini top hat. I get emails all the time asking what types of hats should be worn for evening occasions. You can wear any type of hat you choose and a mini top hat is an option.
Mini top hats are doll size and embellished with feathers, flowers, veiling and sometimes crinoline. I like wearing them because they are small and light. They have an elastic band that goes behind the hair to secure it. The mini top hats give a French style air to a conservative outfit, such as a black tuxedo suit.
When viewing pictures of Ascot and the Melbourne Cup, you’ll often see ladies wearing the mini top hats with huge feathers. Phillip Treacey has used them in his collection before, as well as Steven Jones.
