Gloria del Campo snatched an early lead in the Dubai Cup, held onto that lead and crossed the line in a thrilling photo finish.
The same day one of our favorite hats, finished a champion as well. The lady who chose Luna to complete her World cup ensemble was featured on the cover of Ahlan Magazine. We received word of this from her husband who wrote,
“I am writing to thank you for your creative talent and amazing selection, which made the event we attended so much special. “Luna” hat was a masterpiece, exactly what my wife’s desired for her dress…”
Luna or variations on the hat has always attracted attention. Originally designed in 2008 at the last minute before Derby to complement a dress belonging to a woman who’d been left in the lurch by her milliner. The design saved the day and seemed interesting enough to add to the collection.
At the 2009 Derby one of our clients tracked Polly and me down with exciting news that she’d received a very special compliment on her Derby hat. The hat was Luna, the compliment came from none other than Aretha Franklin.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the creative process is what I call “When the Chips are Down” phenomena, that is, how often the last minute designs, the ideas you pull out of thin air are the most successful. What began as a fashion crises in Georgia resulted in a design that has drawn comments from the Queen of Soul as well as created a stir on the other side of the world.
