Hats and gardening go together well. One can stay much cooler while gardening in a hat. In addition, hats protect your skin from the ravages of the sun. My father, a farmer, has always worn hats and today, looks much younger than his 77 years of age. Hopefully, I have inherited the same gene!

To make your own garden hat, here are a few suggestions:

Purchase a plain straw hat.

Collect dried flowers, moss, a silk butterfly or two.

Put on some fun music (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons works especially well)

Start working!

The dried flowers can be roses, lavender, cockscomb, salvia, babies breath, hydragena, yarrow, etc. The flowers would be probably best attached with a glue gun.

An important final consideration is to store your garden/herb hat out of the direct sunlight. As we all the know, the sun is incredibly strong and can bleach the colors out of the flowers/herbs.

Enjoy your garden hat!
