One of the surprises that I came across in my business was that ladies purchase hats for Mardi Gras events. In Mobile, this is a big event on the social calendar.

 

Being from Kentucky, I knew very little about Mardi Gras. Apparently, Mobile’s Mardi Gras celebrations started in 1703 and is the oldest carnival in the United States. There are many different societies and groups that take part.

Last year, I had the privilege of designing hats for 2 sisters participating in Mobile’s Mardi Gras event. Both Amy and Emily were a delight to work with. Emily wore the High Tea hat. Amy wanted an all ivory version of Absolutely Elegant. Her idea turned out well and become Amy, which is now on the website.
