How can a hat win the Preakness? Well, obviously it can’t. However Audra’s Derby was the winner in an on-line voting contest. The hat was chosen by 55% of the voters as the hat that WBAL’s Sandra Shaw should wear while covering the Preakness.
While my hats have been in contests before, this was the first such one with on-line voting. I am so computer illiterate that it took Anne, my former intern, to tell me that we were ahead in the voting with 52% of the vote. There were four hats in the running and honestly, Sandra looked great in all of them. She is, as we milliners say, “a natural” when it comes to hat wearing. Here is the on-line voting: WBALTV.COM
As any of you know who watched the Preakness, it was an exciting race. Since I had just seen Mind That Bird win the Kentucky Derby, I have to admit that I was pulling for him to win. He might have had the race been a bit longer. But you have to love Rachel Alexandra and Calving Borel. She is an amazing horse and it was nice to see the filly beat all the boys! We all know women are really the stronger sex, don’t we?
