The Easter Parade, while also a famous song, book and movie, is an actual parade that takes place in Manhattan every year. This New York tradition goes back to the middle 1800”s. The social elite from the city would attend church services along 5th Avenue and then afterwards, parade down the street jubilantly in their Easter best. People from all over Manhattan swarm to 5th Avenue to see the fabulous Easter fashions. It is a combination of religious service and spring fashion runway.
Some of the most famous Easter Parade fashions that continue to change and grow each year are the Easter Bonnets. Year after year the hats become more elaborate and out-of-this-world. Many deck their hats with festive birds and vibrant flowers. Easter is a perfect time to break out your pastel dress and your big hat. Show off your own personal “Easter Parade fashion” at your family gathering or religious service.
