Being a creative person, I love the “buzz” that comes when doing new designs. There’s an energy that comes when you are on a design “roll” like nothing else. It really is like a high, similar to one that a girl might get when shopping in a favorite store. I can get a similar feeling while shopping at Sephora or in Soho.
There is no way to force creativity. For me, I really have to be in “the zone” to design new hats. Taking a week off and visiting California did revitalize me. Spending a day on Haight Street was fun, yet laid back. It was warm and sunny, a far cry from 17 degree temperatures back in Kentucky. A trip to Carmel-By-The-Sea really did the trick. A friend had suggested that I visit the Comstock Fairy Tale Cottages. My husband and I did a walking tour one morning and I was able to see many on the list. The sense of whimsy and bending of design “rules” that Hugh Comstock employed to design his fairy tale cottages is a delight.
Back to hats, it’s been a blast working with new colors and concepts. I hope to have them done at the end of the week. Today, I’m working on hats for a photo shoot at Today’s Woman Magazine in Louisville. They do an annual Derby Fashion spread and I was asked again to bring hats for the fashion shoot.
Well, back to work!
