Many of my clients enjoy wearing hats at horse races. These races obviously include the Kentucky Derby, Royal Ascot, Del Mar and a few others. Over the years, I have designed hats and fascinators for the Travers Stakes, held annually in August at the Saratoga Race Track in New York.
Wearing a hat to the Travers is not only part of the tradition but also an avenue to express one’s individuality. The wearing of hats and fascinators is a nice way to honor the history of the Travers.
Wondering what to wear to the Travers?
I would suggest The Velma, a bergere hat that features pink butterflies and dogwood flowers.
An another option would be The Mesta, a black straw sailor hat that would go with many outfits. I like to have things in my closet that easily coordinate with other items.
Yellow is a popular color this year. The Melissa percher is worn on a headband. Easy to pack, it is an easy winner. It could be paired with blue, white, pink or even green.
