Writing this blog was difficult as I’m still battling the flu and my brain is all clogged up. The upside of the flu is that one has a perfect excuse not to do anything but drink tea and watch television!
I’ve always loved Masterpiece Theatre on PBS. Each Sunday at 9:00 p.m., they are running Jane Austen movies. The first was “Persuasion”, a tale about love lost and then through many trials, all working out in the end. Being a costume junkie, I did enjoy viewing the lovely costumes and bonnets. Anne (the main character), wore a lovely bonnet that had maroon silk and stripes. Part of the movie takes place in Bath, England. If you are familiar with Bath, you will sure to recognize The Pump Room and Royal Crescent.
As a vintage collector, I’ve found few bonnets. Since they were made from cotton and silk, most do not last the test of time. I did see one from the 1900’s and it looked very fragile indeed.
Next week, Northanger Abbey will start, which I’m excited about since I’ve never seen it.
