Often, ladies will mention that they love to wear hats, but don’t often have the opportunity to wear them. Why not invite your friends to tea and suggest that they each wear a hat? The hat doesn’t have to be fancy, just something they love wearing and feel comfortable in.
Recently, I joined a tea group called the Ladies Historical Society. It is a wonderful group of ladies who combine their love of teas, vintage fashion, literature and history. The first event I attended was a Fairy Tea where we learned about Mary Cicely Baker, who was the artist most associated with fairy drawings. Tea, hats, history and wonderful conversation – life does not get any better!
If you are looking for further ideas for Hat Teas, here are a few:
- Invite each lady to bring a hat that she would like to trade. A hat swap is always a fun way to get a new hat without purchasing one. A hat that one person is tired of is a new hat to someone else.
- Bring plain hats and trim them together. Sort of a create your own hat party!
- Bring hats and do a silent auction/bidding where the money generated gets donated to the groups favorite charity. This is an easy way to raise money without really trying.
It’s time to call your friends and plan your own tea!

Jill,
The Houston Hat Net sounds like a great idea. All you hat lovers out there, why not try a “Sip ‘n See” in your town? Get a few a friends together to enjoy hats and catch up. I’ve found that time out with the girls can be as refreshing as a vacation.

I think giving the people tickets is a great idea. The only other thing I could think of would be to have a another person there as a back-up. Things always seem to get crazy at the same time.
Good luck – sounds like a great idea!
