As the old saying goes for any bride she needs “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”. We have begun to see a new trend in bridal fashion that incorporates the old and new.
Polly has had some recent clients who want to use the material from their mother or grandmother’s wedding veil and use it for a new design. While this use of old fabric and new design is a great way to keep tradition alive without having to sacrifice today’s styles, it can be a very daunting task to cut apart a vintage veil. On the positive side, it is a great way to incorporate the “something old” into a wedding.
Using old fabric in different ways can be very stylish as well, for example, the intricate flower petal trim that was removed from the veil can be used in other aspects of the wedding. Vintage lace trim can be used for many different accents. It can be used as a part of the bouquet or to decorate the sign-in book.
A vintage headpiece is great to replace a veil with when moving from wedding to reception. Headpieces are more wearable but still glamorous. You can also find great ideas and fabrics at thrift shops. Look for veils with great veiling or stunning trim, use either to your advantage, take it apart and redesign it with new crystals and beading.
No matter what you decide and how you decide to wear it, using family heirlooms and vintage pieces can make your day just a little more special.
